Enersis, the subsidiary of ENDESA which encompasses most of the Company’s holdings in Latin America, obtained net income of Euro 850 million in 2009, an increase of 30.1% from 2008. The excellent business performance in Latin America was underpinned by the Company’s geographically diversified presence in the region, where it operates in five countries and throughout the entire electricity value chain (generation, transmission and distribution).

Underlining the company’s solid position in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Perú, EBITDA advanced 6.7% to Euro 3,140 million. EBIT totalled 2,471 million euros, up 3.3% on 2008.

Although physical power sales rose 3.4% from 64,546 GWh to 66,728 GWh, revenues declined slightly – by 1.7%- to Euro 8,283 million due to higher fixed costs.

Enersis’ strong 2009 results were underpinned by the generation and transmission business, which reported EBIT up 14.2% at Euro 1,531 million. Revenues totalled Euro 3,478 million.

The generation business offset the 7.5% decline in operating income at the distribution business to Euro 978 million. Revenues, however, advanced by a noteworthy 4.1% to Euro 5,471 million.

The strong business performance and confidence in Endesa’s business project in Latin America is in turn reflected in Enersis’ share price, which climbed 40.2% in 2009 from 164.7 Chilean pesos to 230.9 pesos per share.

Enersis is the leading private electric multinational in Latin America. At present it has direct and indirect holdings in electricity generation, transmission and distribution and related areas. Based in Santiago de Chile, Enersis has companies in five Latin America countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru.

Enersis’ holdings in Latin America had an installed capacity of more than 14,800 MW at the end of 2009, and via its distribution companies supplied electricity to around 12.8 million customers, representing more than 45 million people.
