Endesa Polska

In October 2006, Endesa set up its first subsidiary in Poland, Endesa Polska. The creation of this company underscores ENDESA’s commitment to Poland and the continuity of its activities in the country, with the aim of consolidating its current position and leveraging existing value-creation tools to aid in the development of Endesa’s activities in Poland. In short, Endesa Polska is the Group’s investment, management and energy supply vehicle in the country.

Poland has the largest electricity market of the new European Union member states, with nearly 16 million customers, installed capacity of approximately 35 GW and total demand of 144 TWh. It enjoys a strategic geographical position, with access to the central EU markets and Russia.

Endesa operates the Bialystok power station (Elektrocieplownia Bialystok, S.A.), a coal-burning plant with 330 MWe of capacity, which produces over 1,700 GWh a year.

Endesa also participates in Poland with a 10 per cent stake Gielda Energii.

At the end of 2006 ENDESA won the tender to acquire 85% of Dolna Odra which owns three plants with total combined installed capacity of 1,960 MW. The contract has yet to be signed officially.
