1944. On November 18 ENDESA is founded.
1945. Construction begins on the Compostilla electrical plan in Ponferrada, province of Leon in Spain. The first production unit of the plant, which was to be upgraded in later years, goes on line.
1972. Merger with Hidrogalicia. Throughout the 70s and 80s, Endesa was to acquire a wide range of mining facilities all over Spain (As Pontes in La Coruña; Andorra, in Teruel) and shores up its generation capacity with the startup of plants in As Pontes, in La Coruña; Andorra and Escatrón, in Teruel; and Litoral, in Almería. In addition, it starts up diesel plants in Ceuta and Melilla and generator II of the nuclear plant at Ascó, Tarragona.
1983. The ENDESA Group is constituted by the acquisition of shares that had belonged to the Instituto Nacional de Industria (the Spanish state company), in the firms Enher, Gesa, Unelco, and Encasur.
In the same year, ERZ becomes part of Grupo ENDESA.
1988. First initial public offering of ENDESA stock. The Spanish state reduces its share of the firm to 75.6%. The same year, the company's stock is listed for the first time on the New York Stock Exchange.
